NCAA Women's Soccer to resume in 2021

They're Back!

NCAA DI Board of Directors has approved a plan onTuesday to conduct 2020 fall championships in the spring of 2021.

First games for those divisions that did not play in the fall is slated for February 3. Tournament selections will take place on April 18th. The NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament is not scheduled for May 13 - 17.

So NCAA Women's Soccer could have it's first games in just over 2 weeks!

I remember one particular game on the road. I got subbed out after 20 minutes. Let me repeat….20 MINUTES!! Ughhhhh I was embarrassed and disappointed in myself 😫. I didn’t prepare my body to play 90 minutes, instead I ate enough to only last me 20 minutes.

Let’s be real- training is great and all, but the real reason we love the beautiful game is because of GAME DAYYYY!! 😍

I love these plates because it allows for you to PLUG and CHUG the foods that you like into these categories, making it SOOO easy! Don’t like rice? Choose pasta! Don’t have pasta? Choose potatoes! You get the point? I’m a huge fan of not overthinking meals. I try to make it as simple as possible for myself because that means I have time for other things!

Game day plate : eat 3-4 hours before

Hands up for performance plates 🙌🏽 ⠀

I’m not a big fan of counting calories or tracking macros. I find that that takes up too much unnecessary mental space and has the ability to lead to an unhealthy relationship with food. Players that work with me use performance plates, which are a great tool to use to be able to adjust fueling needs based on their soccer schedule. Based on the activity for the day, a player picks an appropriate performance plate and then is able to choose foods that still fit in her food preferences while meeting her fueling needs! I work closely with players to make sure they are able to enjoy snacks and meals while ensure that they are eating enough!⠀

Fueling your body is important. I’m a firm believer that food is fuel, fun, and comfort among other things. It’s not meant to be restrictive or cause you to miss out on social events. “I’m not sure I’m strong enough to go through this”⠀

I remember the day I tore my ACL so vividly. It was towards the end of practice and overcast. We were scrimmaging and coach said “Last 5 minutes!” for the third time 😫. I received the ⚽️ with my back to the goal. With my 🦶 firmly planted, two of my teammates tried poking the ball away both hitting my leg is a crazy position…💥POP💥! Everyone, including our keeper on the other side of the field heard it. I immediately screamed in pain 😫 and I knew right away what had happened and couldn’t keep myself from 😭 . ⠀

I was prepared when the trainer confirmed I had torn my ACL, but I was not prepared for the recovery process. I spent hours in the training room and in my apartment trying to recover. Took me twice the amount of time to get all around campus because you can’t ride a bike when your leg is immobilized 🤪 anyways...⠀

I’m sure a large number of you have experienced the tough road to recovery. Did you know that focusing on your nutrition can help reduce muscle loss and get you back on the field quicker?⠀

WHAT I WISH I KNEW WHEN I TORE MY ACL⠀

1️⃣ You can come back mentally and physically stronger! ⠀
🎶 “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger!” Kelly knew the truth! I look back on it now and realize that I was meant to go through it!⠀
2️⃣ Focus on your nutrition PRIOR TO and AFTER surgery to help reduce muscle loss and decrease inflammation⠀
Getting hurt suuuuuucks, but you can focus on using food as a way to get back stronger! make the transition easier by making your nutrition a priority!⠀
3️⃣ Work with a dietitian as part of your recovery to help you get back on the field! ⠀
You’ve got athletic trainers, PTs and S&C coaches. You’re just missing one more piece of the puzzle- a dietitian!! It can be overwhelming and you don’t have to go at it alone. I wish I had a dietitian to help me to understand WHAT to eat and WHY so that I could have gotten back onto the field quicker and with more confidence. ⠀

“What can I do to stop having sugar cravings?”⠀

I was taught:⠀
❌Sugar is bad.⠀
❌If you want to overcome sugar cravings you must have willpower and be disciplined.⠀
❌Sugar was addictive, like a drug.⠀

CAN YOU RELATE???⠀

Science shows that if you restrict yourself from a food, you are likely to overeat it because it’s exciting. Regularly allowing yourself the ”off limit” foods will help the excitement wear off. When you give yourself permission to allow all foods it you are able to figure out if you are even in the mood for it. WHATTTT?! 🤯⠀

You do not have to feel guilty or think you’re going to hurt your performance if you enjoy ice cream or eat a candy bar. ⠀

Let’s stop demonizing food, including sugar. With my guidance, you will be able to enjoy all foods in your fueling plan AND dominate the field!⠀
